Car manufacturers sometimes manage to get a few things right, such as a comfy seat and a nice looking alloy wheel, but BMW have quite rightly swept the What Car? Car of the Year awards 2020 with their spectacular line up of models that sets industry standards.

BMW's Prestige Hybrid

Those after prestige should target the BMW 3 Series 330e M Sport in all its executive splendour. Here is a hybrid, which is perfect for those wanting an easy yet comfortable commute. Combine that with the ability to charge overnight and this is a great way to travel, especially when it operates in electric mode only with a maximum range of up to 37 miles. No wonder that this model also picked up the Plug-In Hybrid award.

When it comes to luxury the BMW 5 Series can hold its own, taking home the Luxury Car award for a simply a well-engineered, comfortable and impressive saloon.

BMW's Best Luxury Car

Incredibly the BMW 5 Series 520d MHT SE is the basic specification yet it has absolutely everything you would expect from a luxury car. Also the smallest engine is certainly perky and delivers with its mild hybrid technology so that it will return 56 mpg

Up front there are part-electrically operated and heated seats and leather trim. When it comes to tech there’s a big 12.3-inch infotainment screen, with concierge service, sat-nav and Apple CarPlay. To make life easier there is very cool ambient interior lighting and dual-zone climate control. LED headlights light the way, front and rear parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers help keep everyone safe.

Ultimate Safety With BMW 3 Series

Indeed, to top off all these awards, the BMW 3 Series picked up the overall Safety gong. It isn’t hard to see why, the list of active and passive systems is impressive.

For a start there are six airbags, including side and curtain airbags. To avoid using them the Anti-Lock Braking System with brake assist will help avoid wheel locking and skidding. Allied to that is electronic stability program and traction control system all to help keep the 3 Series on the road. Other standard features include rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps.

Why BMW Are Seen as Prestigious

We spoke to Michelle Roberts the Marketing Director of BMW UK on their outstanding wins at the What Car? Awards, here’s what she said:

“As one of the most prestigious motoring titles in the UK, with a famously rigorous testing process, we are delighted that BMW won more awards than any other manufacturer at the 2020 What Car? Awards. It is a particular highlight for 3 Series to be recognised in several competitive categories including Best Executive Car, the safety award and 330e finishing top in the sought-after Plug-in Hybrid category. BMW 5 Series winning Best Luxury Car for the fourth consecutive year reinforces its unsurpassed blend of driving dynamics, comfort and functionality.”

So, if you’re in the market for a range of models that are safe, prestigious and at the cutting edge of automotive technology you should pop down to your local BMW showroom for a test drive.
